MAIRI MORRISON
|
Mairi Morrison, a Hebridean artist, first studied Graphic Design at Cardonald College followed by a degree course in drawing and painting at Glasgow School of Art in the 1980's where she was a contemporary of Stephen Campbell and Ken Currie. Mairi's work has been exhibited throughout the United Kingdom as well as selling to many overseas clients. She has been a participant at the Artist's Workshop, Garyvard, Isle of Lewis and in the subsequent exhibitions, 'The Gaelic Connections', at the Rendezvous Gallery, Aberdeen. Mairi resides with her family on the Isle of Lewis, her place of birth. This place of residence has allowed and encouraged Mairi to portray through her paintings her environment, faith, and culture. As she states, "having such an intimate knowledge of your subject matter allows you greater freedom". Mairi incorporates her landscapes with strong figurative work which has allowed her a more narrative approach to her paintings often portraying the generations of the Hebridean woman. The paintings in this small exhibition are based on the classic "The Pilgrim's Progress". |
