Art
critics have described my work as being 'reminiscent
of Degas a those Victorian photographs of women
"accidentally" glimpsed in domes
surroundings' (Moira Jeffrey, March 2003) and 'small
smoky images of female nude that are quite
memorable' (Duncan MacMillan, June 2003) with a more
recent mention in the 178th Annual RSA Exhibition as
group of exquisite small nude paintings' (Duncan
MacMillan 2004).
I have been
concentrating on the female nude for several years
now, exploring the play of light and shadow on skin
tones. I try to create a scene; hazy figures are
glimpsed through the darkness with shafts of light
etching the contours of the body. This recent
collection of work also takes fresh inspiration from
my travels to the Far East,
Himalayas
and Rajasthan. I ! concerned with the feeling, the
impression, the revelation a painting gives you
rather than actual realism. These paintings are a
meditation on light and nature.'
