The Rendezvous Gallery has become a familiar landmark situated in the West End of Aberdeen since 1975. Having been in it’s present location on Forest Avenue for over 37 years, the Rendezvous Gallery has established itself as a highly experienced and knowledgeable source for Scottish Art from 1880 to the present including contemporary artists. As well as the gallery space, the Rendezvous is unique in that it deals with decorative arts ranging from jewellery, glass, silver, bronzes, ceramics and furniture. In particular, we are keen to promote the Scandinavian designed pieces from the 1950's onwards including furniture and decorative objects. Every year the gallery holds around 10 exhibitions; usually solo exhibitions by contemporary Scottish artists. Two major exhibitions, 'The Academicians' in 2002 and 'Invited Academicians and R.S.W. Members 2010' were held and included works from members of the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Scottish Society for Painters in Watercolour who have connections to the Rendezvous Gallery or the North East of Scotland. 2012 will see the Rendezvous Gallery's Artist in Residence programme in it’s 6th year. The programme was established to encourage mainland Scottish artists to visit and experience the Outer Hebrides, in particular, the Isle of Lewis. Tigh Alasdair Ruaraidh was once a derelict cottage with an adjoining 18th century bothy. These have been transformed into a comfortable residence and an artists’ studio in a remote community called Garyvard in the south of the island. Selected artists can live in the cottage and work in the adjoining artists’ studio. This programme has been supported by The Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour, Edinburgh which is subsidized by Martin Gilbert, Aberdeen Asset Management. In order to promote young Scottish artists, the gallery established The Rendezvous Gallery-Linda Clark Nolan Scholarship, which was presented annually at the Royal Scottish Academy. This Scholarship has now been discontinued. An additional Scholarship, the Rendezvous Gallery-Alistair McKinnon Residency is being funded by Sheila Selley from Ottawa, Canada, whose ancestors originated from the South Lochs, Isle of Lewis. This scholarship has been established to give financial support to the artists who are awarded the Residency.
