JOHN HOUSTON, OBE, RSA, RSW

 Born Buckhaven, Fife.  Painter in oil and watercolour.
 Edinburgh College of Art 1948 - 1954.  
Married to the painter Elizabeth Blackadder.
 
1954 joined the staff of the Edinburgh College of Art.
Travelled widely.  In 1957 was instrumental in launching the 57 Gallery in Edinburgh where he held his first one-man show the following year.
 
Elected ARSA 1964, RSA 1972, he won the Guthrie Award in 1964 and the Cargill Prize at the Glasgow Institute in 1965.
A powerful colourist, evoking the moods of light and weather.
 
Regular exhibitor at the Royal Scottish Academy, Royal Society of Painters in Watercolour and the Glasgow Institute.
